Things to do this Winter in Morris County

Although we are having an unprecedented warm winter month, Morris County will be getting cold soon!  A typical winter in Northern New Jersey is chilly, snowy, and often has residents feeling a little bit of cabin fever. When that cold weather does finally approach, we want you to be prepared with lots of fun winter activities unique to our area.

Despite the cold temps, you cannot deny the outstanding beauty of Morris County in the winter. Fear not, there are tons of fun winter activities in Morris County and Denville during the winter; you just have to know where to find them! Enjoy some of these awesome activities when the temperature begins to drop and the snow begins to fall.

Visit the Winter Market

In Denville you will find the popular farmer’s market. Not many towns have these in the winter months, but Denville is proud to stay open! On Jan 10th & 24th, Feb 7th & 21st, Mar 6th & 20th you can head over to Bloomfield Avenue for everything ranging from artisanal products to local farm produce. The Denville Farmer’s Market is always a good time, allowing you to get some shopping done while supporting the local community.

Go Sledding

Hacklebarney State Park is located in the idyllic town of Long Valley, NJ in Morris County. Take the short drive to this state park for some of the best sledding on the East Coast! This park is a local treasure, so you won’t have to deal with the long lines to sled like you would at popular mountains and resorts. Dress warm and head out to the park for stunning scenery, adrenaline-pumping sledding hills, and winter fun. Make sure to pack some hot cocoa for an after-sledding treat!

Go Ice Skating

All over Morris County you will find popular ice rinks and outdoor skating opportunities. Dress warm and hit the ice for a fun winter adventure. Always be careful before skating on a frozen pond or lake, and do not go on the ice if a “no skating” sign is posted. You can usually tell which lakes and ponds are acceptable to skate on by the crowds of people that flock to them!

Cross-Country Skiing

Winter in Morris County is absolutely gorgeous. How many people can say they can go cross-country skiing in their backyard? Located nearby Estling Village in Tourne County Park in Denville, NJ!
